Canvas Life

Canvas arriving (landing) or water landing

May 5th, 2024
Tatsumi Hijikata and Natsuyuki Nakanishi Memorial Saruhashi Warehouse

A performance centered around a white canvas stored at the Tatsumi Hijikata and Natsuyuki Nakanishi Memorial Warehouse near Saruhashi Station in Yamanashi Prefecture. Two bodies engage with the canvas, exploring boundaries.

Continuing from the previous work, this piece explores eating and the everyday body on stage, while engaging with the themes of childbirth and gender.

"Also, even if we imagine there is only a single apple, it is the apple’s landing (or touchdown). However, since there is no absolute guarantee that one truly exists here and now, it seems that this must be the apple’s landing on water. The position of a ship can be confirmed by latitude and longitude, but the seabed does not bear the ship’s weight. Perhaps the apple, like a ship floating on the boundary between layers in a space made up of multiple strata, is merely landing on one such boundary."
